Road trip to Ohio

Today we took a road trip to Ohio to get our new boar.  I decided to keep a "diary"of the trip, and, here it is!  Enjoy!

Our "rig"

This morning, we rose early (early for me... Kevin actually got to sleep in). I even woke up before my alarm, which is rare in the 5:00 a.m. hour (even though I'm a farm wife I'm still not a morning person).  Yesterday two of our hens died unexpectedly, and last night I had a dream that 12 more died, so of course, this was one of the first things I wanted to check on this morning before we got going.  I was quite relieved when I opened the barn door and discovered that my dream did NOT come true.  Whew.  One other thing I learned before we left is that taking pictures in the dark doesn't work that well.  Before we left I decided to try to take pictures of our hogs to show our friends in Ohio.  Well.... try to find the black pigs in the dark picture below....

They are kind of difficult to make out clearly.  So much for the picture taking idea.

6:20 a.m.  Off we go on our trip.  I decided not to make coffee at home so that we could enjoy a nice cup of Biggby on the way.  Well..... Biggby doesn't open until 7 a.m. on Saturday.  Uh oh.  No coffee for us.  We decide to find one later on down the road.  We hit Lansing before 7 a.m. and thought they might not be open yet either... onward we go.
Good morning, Michigan!
7:10 a.m. - almost to Howell, MI.  Will we find Biggby here?

Nope.  I am keeping my eyes peeled for every blue sign that advertises coffee.  We have been up for 2 hours now, and no coffee. :(

Well, now we need fuel....

Here we are at Shell.  Guess we'll get coffee, and now I have to admit that I've turned into somewhat of a coffee snob.  Gas station coffee just isn't a Caramel Marvel.  But it shall suffice.
I need caffeine now.

Coffee...

5 miles down the road, Biggby is on the sign!!  No dice. We got off the exit, but couldn't find it.  Oh well.  I have coffee now anyway.  On the road again.

8:30 a.m. We made it across the border.

Toto, we're not in Michigan anymore.  These roads are SMOOTH!  A welcome change, to be sure.

9:05  Road construction ensues.  Things are a little backward.... the trucks are in the left lane, as per request on the road signs.... feels strange.

9:20 Findlay, OH.

I am now working on our garden seed order.  We are about an hour away from our destination.  I have to stop working on the garden seed order because it is making me too hungry.  Those pictures of fresh tomatoes are just too tantalizing.

We see some nice country along the way:

I'm still hungry...... but....

No ice cream for me.  :(

10:00 a.m.  Ketnton, OH

The building behind the signs reminds me of one from a website I like to go to to look at cool old buildings called "Abandoned America."

10:15  Here we are!

We had a wonderful visit with the Krocks, whom we came down here to see and get our new little pig from.  We enjoyed a delicious meal together and had a great time visiting and seeing their farm.

2:00 p.m.  All loaded up with the new little guy, and on the road back to Michigan.

This was a curious sight on the corner.....
The antennas are really tall!

3:15 p.m. - we are just south of Toldeo, and look, a Bronner's sign!

For some reason, I am still hungry for ice cream.

Perrysburg/Maumee, OH area - guess what?!  BIGGBY sign.  I decide that a frozen chocolate coffee will be just as good as ice cream...

...and it is.  :)

We stop for gas at a different shell station....
The "rig" in daylight
And, we check on the little guy.  He is all snuggled in a nice straw bed.

Isn't he cute?  We think so.  :)

Back on the road.  Here is The Anderson's Elevator/Shipping Terminal.  Kevin used to deliver grain here once upon a time.

4:05 p.m.  Welcome to Michigan!

6:00 p.m.  We are home!  The new little guy, who we decided to name "Boss" is all settled in his new home.

It was a great trip, and we would like to thank our sponsors:
My parents (for watching and taking such good care of the kids).
Scott & Lois Walker (for letting us borrow their awesome trailer again)
Darren & Felicia Krock (for the great day today, and the Super pig.  We love him!)
